Consideration will be given to applicants with an interest in clinical or basic research and comes with the opportunity to participate in our educational program including medical students, residents, and fellows.

This is an academic appointment with research and teaching opportunities and expectations. The ideal candidate would be board certified or board eligible in Ophthalmology with excellent clinical and surgical skills, an ability to connect with patients, and a desire to teach Ophthalmology residents, interns, and medical students.  Clinical research is also encouraged but not required.  The appropriate academic appointment will be provided based on the candidate’s qualifications.  The position would entail Comprehensive and Glaucoma clinic responsibilities primarily at two of our locations.  The call for the clinic and the emergency department is evenly distributed among colleagues.

We are currently searching for a fellowship trained glaucoma or cornea subspecialist to join our Central Iowa staff based out of our Des Moines clinic.  Growth in our patient load has demanded that we add an additional anterior segment specialist to help with this volume. We are interested in bringing on board a fellowship trained cataract surgeon. Fellowship in any anterior segment specialty would be considered and ample surgical volume will be available. Cataract surgical volume for this position is expected to be in the 1200 case range annually. Referral relationships are well established with our organization and the successful candidate will be provided opportunities to strengthen these relationships in his/her subspecialty. Our Clinic has been in operation for over 100 years and all ophthalmologists, who have established careers here, have enjoyed a fulfilling practice both financially and professionally.  Our statewide ophthalmology staff includes 5 cornea, 5 glaucoma, 8 retina, 2 pediatric, 2 oculoplastic and 6 comprehensive surgeons.  Our average physician compensation is typically in the top 10% nationally.
